About the Race
The 5K race will begin at 8:30 am on May 18th, 2019 at the Watauga County Sheriff's Office. The runners and walkers will head out of the Hodges Gap Road Parking Lot and up Oak Grove Road. They will then take a right onto 421 South and continue down the road until they reach the light at the Mellow Mushroom in downtown Boone, near the Courthouse. At the light, they will all take a right onto Water St. and at the end of the road take a left onto Rivers St. They will follow Rivers St. and enjoy the beautiful ASU campus on both sides. Then they will take a right onto 321 South. Stay straight on the highway and after three lights, the 5K runners and walkers will see their final destination at the Boone Police Department on the right!
About Who We are Honoring
This year, the run will be in memory of James Randall, “Randy” Collins, who passed away Thursday afternoon, August 30, 2018. While in Boone, he served as Chief of Watauga County Rescue for 26 years. Winston Churchill once said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” This is just one of the many thoughts that describe a man that had such a servant’s heart. The proceeds from our Memorial Run and Celebration will be given to the Randy Collins Athletic Training Scholarship-Yosef Club.
Join Us! Let's run on May 18th, 2019 to commemorate the life of Randy Collins and honor all of those who protect and serve. Hunter's Heroes will not allow Randy Collins and our other past recipients to ever be forgotten.
