There is an enormous amount of protein supplements on the market today! When used along with exercise, protein supplements are promoted as enhancing muscle mass, metabolic rate, and physical performance. They vary in composition, some with 100% protein to others that mainly consist of carbohydrate with some protein and fat added.
The big question today is should you even supplement??
Some people rave all for them, and others swear against them. With the research out right now, I can say that protein supplements are overall not necessary. However batch tested good quality protein supplements can be useful as an addition to a well balanced diet for high intensity strength athletes aiming to meet their increased protein requirements; especially if time is an issue. But overall, whole foods are almost always the better option!
