Have you ever tried to conquer a long-term goal all at once? A New Year’s resolution is a great example of this. Each year people make numerous goals to improve their time management, diet, exercise, and more for the entire year. Some examples include removing fried foods, avoiding sweet tea, eliminating sweets, or exercising at least 30 minutes per day. The list goes on and on. The primary goal is to stick with those resolutions all year long, which can be overwhelming to think through!

 

Usually the initial reaction is to jump right in all at once to get results as fast as possible. This can definitely work for some people. However, making small steps is just as effective. Little changes to your day can go a long way.

Here are some important health guidelines that we will walk through together over the next seven weeks. These small steps are guaranteed to help you attain a healthier lifestyle.

 

1. Eat a healthy breakfast.

Starting the day with a healthy meal boosts your metabolism and gives you the energy that you need for the day ahead.

 

2. Snack Smart.

Snacks are good for satisfying hunger that happens throughout the day. The right nutritious snacks will help you eat less at meal times.

 

3. Exercise Daily.

Getting exercise each day reduces risk for chronic diseases, speeds up your metabolism, and decreases stress hormones. There are so many different ways to exercise. This will help keep your physical activity exciting on a daily basis!

 

4. Eat Your Fruits and Vegetables.

Not only are fruits and vegetables low in calories, but they supply fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals and may reduce risk of diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and certain cancers.

 

5. Get Some Sleep.

Sleep is essential for a person’s well-being and plays an important role in physical health.

 

6. Do Not Forget to Hydrate.

Drinking fluids is essential for life. Water is the best option for staying hydrated and is critical for regulating body temperature, lubricating joints, and transporting nutrients throughout the body.

 

7. Enjoy the benefits and commit to a healthy lifestyle!

Living a healthy life does not have to deprive you of the things you love. Work these steps into your life, and along the way you may find something new that you love to eat or love to do.
