Building your Immune System

Prepping for a run but feeling a little under the weather? Afraid that you will get sick before the run? Fear not! There are wonderful things you can do to help your immune system become stronger!

-A diet high in fruits and vegetables is wonderful for your immune system. Many fruits and vegetables have anti-oxidant properties that help get rid of free radicals in your body.

-Eat more whole grains! Whole grains have a high fiber content that helps ease your digestion.

-Control your blood pressure. Checking your blood pressure regularly can help you keep a close eye on how your pressure is doing. According to the American Heart Association, it is recommended that your blood pressure be below 120/80 mm Hg.

-If you consume alcoholic drinks, be sure to drink in moderation.

-Rest! Get enough sleep. Your body does a lot of repairing while you dream about winning your next race.

-Wash your hands. We are constantly touching things that have been touched my many others. Washing your hands regularly can help you avoid some pretty nasty viruses and bacteria.
